Your morning routine does not have to be tedious or complex!

Do a Google search right now and you will find tons of websites giving you all these options and ideas about morning rituals that quite honestly, can be really hard to get into.

So I figured I’d read your mind and give you some very practical suggestions of morning routines you can adapt that do not require too much time, but can still add incredible value to start your day on the right foot!

  1. Highly Effective Morning Daily Rituals Begin The Night Before!

Are you addicted to scrolling through your phone in the nightly hours?

One minute you have promised to put your phone away to get a good night’s sleep, next minute (literally) you’re on Instagram engrossed in a video clip of a cat jumping off a building.

100 videos later, it is 2 A.M in the morning, you have to be up by 5:30 AM yet again, you have allowed your phone to ruin yet another good night’s sleep.

So the question is, how can we possibly keep this technological demon away from us at night?

Pretty scary, huh?

So how do you stop yourself from this terrible habit that millions of us have grown accustomed to?

  • Buy yourself an alarm clock. Yes, Instead of relying on your phone to wake you up, get yourself another more traditional device that you do not have to interact with to wake you up in the morning.
  • Now that you have your alarm clock, take your phone and put it as far away from you as possible before night time. Put it in a room that is far away from you so that when you are in your warm, cozy bed, the thought of getting out, getting cold and walking into another room to get it will simply deter you!
  • Read a book. If you don’t have any books, go to your local bookstore and buy a book that will actually interest you to want to read it.
  • Journaling is another really useful and brilliant suggestion. This is the perfect way to end your day because it allows you to be reflective and to take stock of what you did and did not do with your day, how you felt as well as meaningful experiences you had. It can be a wonderful way to vent and let go of anything stressful before you lay your head on your pillow.
  1. As A Daily Ritual, Wake Up 15 Minutes Earlier Every Morning. (I’ll explain why in a second)

 

  1. Do A 10 Minute Deep Breathing Exercise

Wake up 15 minutes earlier than usual so you have some time to spare for this vital exercise.

Spend the first 5 minutes getting back to consciousness first.

The great thing about this is that you can stay in your bed while doing it. Simply sit up, close your eyes and focus on your breathe for the next 10 minutes.

Why is this important for you to do, first thing in the morning?

Because it relaxes a tense, racing mind and might I add, it cures a bad mood.

Breathing deeply has several health benefits, especially if you are suffering from heart problems or asthma, as explained in this Wikipedia article:

You don’t have to restrict this exercise to just the morning. I encourage you to take 5 minutes of your afternoon, maybe at lunch time to do this, and also just before you go to bed.

Every morning, you have decided to take 2 minutes out of the 24 hours of your day to do something constructive, though miniscule. A made bed will make you want to tidy your room…trust me.

This process makes you care enough about your day that this new found energy runs over into more tasks you are more willing to do.

And even if your entire day falls apart and you go home, exhausted and discouraged, you can open the door to your bedroom and look at a neat and tidy space and tell yourself “At the very least, I started my day well” and it will make you want to do it again tomorrow.

  1. Make Listening To Inspiring Audios An Everyday Routine

Forget about turning on the radio to catch up with the news or the latest gossip.

Every morning, make a very purposeful and conscious effort to listen to information that motivates, inspires and builds you.

  1. Drink Another Large Glass Of Water

Yes, it is that important. Make sure that you drink at least 4-5 glasses of water a day or a minimum of a litre of water. So go ahead and pick up another glass/mug/bottle of H20!

 

  1. Start With Your Biggest Priority Of The Day

What is the biggest, most pressing matter that you MUST attend to?

Identify it and make it Numero Uno on your list of tasks for the day. Usually, this first tasks leads to other duties that you may have forgotten about.

Write them down, and attend to one issue at a time. Set the biggest agenda of your day as the way to connect the dots to other smaller activities you realize you must do, and watch your day flow more easily and seamlessly.

All these morning routines are practical, do-able, simple and incredibly helpful for your every-day life, and it is my hope that you will be able to do take at least 3 of them and use them on a consistent daily basis.
